Scared Straight

If you have never been to the PJ's (the projects) and/or you've never experienced "project heat", let me hit you with an FYI.  Project heat is so hot the entire apartment will feel like Calcutta!  It's the kind of abnormal hotness that will have you PISSED for no reason.  Having your window open in the middle of the Winter is the norm.

About a month ago, we had an entire weekend of rain...all day and all damn night. On about the last day of the rain, my sister woke up to a GATdamn BIRD chillin on the shelf above the radiator just quietly watching her…i aint able!!!!  Just thinking about that gives me the willies.  I guess it was drying it's wings…I don't know.  Her hubby was easily able to shoo the bird back out of the window, but she was shook.

She was less upset about the bird invading her personal space and more upset because of the stupidstition (stupid superstition for you slow folk) we were told as kids.  My family believes, that if a bird flies in your window, it is because you or someone close to you is about to die. I don't get the connection or why some strange bird is just going to come to your house to give you the 411, but sis was really scared.

She's been sick a LOT lately, so to her, the bird was PROOF that her common cold was killing her.  She called me at work, hysterically crying and upset because she just knew the end was near.  She was so upset, that I was upset.  I am the worse when it comes to tears.  If you cry, I'm crying and I don't even have to know why you're crying.  Somehow I was able to pull it together and act like I wasn't upset though.

I told her that she had better not even think about dying and leaving me alone to deal with our mother (jokes is how we deal…don't judge us!) by myself.  I told her that I would take off work and go with her to get a thorough physical.  She said she'd just had one and other than high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes (both of which she's been managing for at least ten years)…she received a clean bill of health.

I told her to stop smoking crack and getting emotional then…she's fine.  The one thing all of her doctors have been telling her (and me too!) was that she needed to stop smoking.  So because of this bird and the fear that she was dying, she decided to give up cigarettes.  She's been smoking for nearly 15 years and without even using a patch or any of those stop smoking products, she was able to quit…just like that. I wish there was something to make me stop eating junk food…just like that dammit!

Anywho, she's been smoke free for a month now.  I am soooooo proud of my big head sis.  A bunch of us are going out to celebrate tonight with a dinner and a movie.  I asked sis where she wanted to go for dinner.  She's such a cheap date…BBQ's is her answer.  Personally I don't care for the place, since I'm not a big meat eater, but if that's where Bighead wants to go, then so be it.  We're also checking out The Book of Eli.

Hope you folks are doing something fun for the weekend…have a good one!

PS: As I type this I hear MJB's Real Love (the remix), with Biggie on the radio.  He just finished saying.."Well my time is up…piece out to Brooklyn"  So fitting to end the post there!

Congrats to your sister! My mom quit cold turkey when my sister and I were younger. Had a spiritual epiphany.

Like Poca, I had to get it in at work over the weekend. *sigh*
